Jitsology 101: A Reflection

Hey everyone. Today, I want to take a moment to talk about a project I was once very passionate about- Jitsology 101, my intro to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) program.

For those of you who may not have heard about it, Jitsology 101 was something I created to help new BJJ practitioners feel comfortable and confident when they walked into a gym for the first time. The program ran for two sessions a week over four weeks, with a classroom-style session at the start to cover key aspects like posture, injury prevention, basic gym etiquette, and the rich history of BJJ.

The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, and I’m proud to say many of them continue to train BJJ now long after the course has ended. It was great to see people grow from feeling like “a fish out of water” to becoming more confident and capable on the mats.

The Instagram page was growing steadily too, with regular posts several times a week and 435 follower. I even built a website that I truly enjoyed putting together. It felt like everything was on the right track.

Despite the program’s success, I realized that Jitsology 101 was demanding too much of my time. As much as I loved teaching BJJ and watching newcomers thrive, the time commitment was becoming a challenge. I also began to feel that focusing solely on BJJ narrowed the scope of what I have to offer to the community.

I’ve been training Jiu-Jitsu for over 15 years, and it’s definitely a huge passion of mine, but it’s not the only thing I love. Strength training, yoga, calisthenics, kettlebells, nutrition, and of course, physiotherapy are all areas that excite me just as much. I began to see that I was in a unique position to serve the community on a broader scale, beyond just BJJ.

That realization is what led to the creation of Kelvey Physio. This brand is my way of bringing together all my passions. Physiotherapy, fitness, wellness, and yes, still BJJ. Through Kelvey Physio, I aim to offer something more holistic, something that encapsulates all the things I love and feel equipped to share with a much larger audience.

While I won’t be pushing the Jitsology 101 brand, the skills and experience I gained from that endeavour are still very much with me. I plan to serve the community, even the BJJ community specifically, in a better way now, combining everything I’ve learned into a cohesive product… More on tht coming soon.

Before I wrap this up, I want to hear from you. Based on what you know about me, whether it’s through my work in physiotherapy, fitness, or BJJ, how can I best serve you in person and on social media? Would you be interested in courses, classes, or seminars? If so, on what topics? I’d love to get your input to help guide my focus as I move forward with Kelvey Physio.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out and share your thoughts. I’m excited to continue this journey and look forward to growing with all of you.

Thanks for reading,
Brandon
